Phasing
The trail work proposed includes some small improvements to existing trails, which could be completed in the near future, as well as some more significant development projects that may take more time to implement due to funding constraints, and other variables. The development along Regency Park Drive will be occurring over a 5-year timeframe, and trail connections to the Regency Park Drive extension may not be possible until this is underway or complete. The following phasing is recommended:
Phase 1 Complete Planning
- Confirm placement of trails in proposed trail network
- Flag all trails and mark signage locations
- Finalize sign design and sign plans
Phase 2a Prepare Trails
- Clear vegetation, trail obstacles and safety hazards from nature trails to ensure adequate pathway width and height
- Install low puncheon or boardwalks in wet areas
- Add trail base materials (natural, gravel or light crusher dust surface)
- Remove redundant or poorly placed trails
- Fabricate and install trailhead and wayfinding signage
Phase 2b New access points
- Construct new trailhead at the BMO Soccer Facility parking lot and fabricate/ install trailhead sign
Phase 3 Interpretive Signs
- Design and install interpretive signage at new locations
- Re-design and replace existing interpretive signs
Phase 4 Future Active Transportation Connections
- Work with the Regency Park Extension developer to finalize placement of and construct a new AT trail connecting from the development into the Mainland Common
- Widen and upgrade surface of the existing gravel trail to connect the new AT trail to the Mainland North Trail
- Fabricate and install trailhead and wayfinding signage for these new trails and connections.
